Two are detained by Hyderabad Cyber Crime Police for defrauding online clients in an insurance scam.

HYDERABAD: Bellary Pavan Kumar, a Chennai resident, and Soudri Basavaraj, a Kurnool resident, were detained by Hyderabad Cyber Crime Police on suspicion of defrauding internet clients and forging documents under the Chola MS General Insurance company’s name. In response to a victim’s complaint, several cybercriminals got in touch with him pretending to be from Chola MS General Insurance Co. Ltd., offering to renew his general insurance policy. They then took money and transferred it into the bank accounts they supplied.

In accordance with sections 66(C), 66(D), 66 R/w 43 IT Act and 419, 420, 465, 467, 468, 470, and 471 IPC, the Cyber Crime Police filed a case and began an investigation.

With the help of Soudri Basavaraj, the accused Bellary Pavan Kumar operated a fictitious customer service centre and obtained the personal data of the insured from Cholamandalam MS General Insurance business.

Under the guise of renewing their insurance policies, the two collected the money under the name of Chola MS General Insurance firm. The defendants gave bank accounts to insured individuals and defrauded them in order to carry out these cybercrimes. A total of Rs 1,88,599 was fraudulently obtained by both of them. Six ATM cards, six SIM cards, two computers, and seven cell phones were taken by the police.

Under the direct supervision of A.V. Ranganath IPS, Joint Commissioner of Police, Crimes & SIT, Hyderabad; D.Kavitha, DCP, Cyber Crimes, Hyderabad; and R.G Siva Maruthi, ACP, Cyber Crime PS, Hyderabad, a team led by Inspector of Police K. Prasad Rao and comprising of Abhishek, SI, Hariram, ASI, HC Srinivas; and PCs Satish, Bhaskar, Murali, Naveen, Kranthi, Venkatesh of PS cybercrime have solved the case.

Police issued warnings to the public not to follow unapproved websites, believe phoney calls purporting to be from insurance providers, or believe fraudulent internet domains.
